Whitcombi Whitcomb 1957
The strain was isolated in 1953 from a patient in Malaysia and described as a new 'subserovar' of celledoni, named whitcombi, reference strain Whitcomb, by Alexander et al. (1957). It appears for the first time in the serovar list of 1959 (WHO, 1959) as a 'subserovar' of celledoni, but in the list of 1967 it is recorded as a recognized separate serovar. The strain was submitted to factor analysis by Kmety (1963), who confirmed its serological status.
